VOTE EARLY.
DON'T FEEL OVERWHELMED!
There's a better way to vote: with your friends.
From finding the right location, to figuring out who to vote for, to even knowing if you’re registered, many of us worry we might do it wrong, or look dumb for not knowing how to do it.
But no one teaches us how, so we are left trying to figure out something we have never done before. On top of that, if you suffer from anxiety, all these factors can
make voting seem like an impossibility.
BE PREPARED
What You Need to Know:
Your Polling Place
How are you getting there?
Ride sharing makes it cheap and fun. (Lyft and Uber are both running discounts to the polls, check them out if you need a ride.) Find out your area's polling places.
The Time You're Voting
What time are you going to vote?
Polling places are usually open for certain hours: See your state's polling places' times here. Remember: if you're in line when they close, you can vote! (Have you considered early voting or by mail?)
Find Your District
Do you know your Congressional or State legislature districts?
Who is running for Representative? Senator? What about other offices? Use our handy tool to find your districts. Sometimes local elections have the most direct impact!
Propositions
Yes, they are confusing. It’s easier with friends.
Gather and figure them out together. One tip is to check out who is endorsing or who created them. Do these orgs reflect your values?
Your Band of Voters
Is your Band of Voters going with you?
Voting is funner and easier together! Organize transportation, fill out sample ballots together, and make it a celebration.

If you're nervous about voting, here are a few things to consider.
Don't Stress.
If you feel overwhelmed by the voting process, one way to approach it is to vote with your friends!
Voting doesn’t have to be a daunting task. There are many reasons why viewing voting as a social event can make it more approachable and even, fun!
sharing
is Caring
- One of the most important things to remember when dealing with anxiety is that you are not alone.
- By planning your vote with your friends, people you trust and feel comfortable around, you have a support network where you can help each other learn what you need to know to vote - like a study group.
- You can spit up researching candidates, plan how to get the polls or just share your fears and thoughts about the voting process.
MISERY
LOVES COMPANY
- Many people around the country are nervous about the current political environment. It's normal.
- Find a group to discuss your thoughts and opinions with, whether you respectfully agree or disagree.
- This is a great way to remain informed about current events and perspectives, and exchange ideas, and a way to jump into the conversation!
PARTY
TO THE POLLS
- Going to the polls together as a group alleviates the stress of being alone in a strange and, potentially, new setting.
- It’s nice having familiar faces around when overwhelmed. Voting can become a fun gathering, making it more accessible as a process.
- And there's nothing wrong with celebrating your vote together. After all, this is the party of the year when we claim our political power!
At the end of the day, voting is about exercising your power.
It’s frustrating to feel unable to do that because of variables beyond your control.
Hopefully having a band behind you, cheering you on, will help emphasize the agency you have to change the future of the country.
